Speeding Adelaide P-plater hoon caught driving 81km/h over the speed limit at Trott Park

A speeding P-plater will face court over a raft of offences after he was caught driving almost double the speed limit at Trott Park. It comes after a recent crackdown on hoon drivers.

A speeding P-plater will face court after he was clocked travelling more than 80km/h over the speed limit at Trott Park as police crack down on speeding drivers.

Police conducting speed detection duties on the Southern Expressway noticed a white Audi driving at 181km/h in a 100km/h zone.

As the car sped past police, officers sent a radio message to patrols ahead and they were able to safely stop the Audi on Flinders Drive.

The driver, a 17-year-old Hawthorndene man, only held a P1 licence, and was reported for excessive speed, driving at a speed dangerous and breaching a number of conditions of his licence.

The teen’s car was impounded for 28 days and he will be summonsed to appear at the Christies Beach Youth Court at a later date.

The Audi was defected, due to modifications made to the mounting of the number plate.

It comes as police continue to crackdown on hoon drivers, particularly in the Adelaide Hills region.

It was revealed a six-month police operation nabbed more than 13,000 drivers exceeding the speed limit in the Hills.

Of the 13.784 drivers caught speeding in the region between October and April, 676 were motorcyclists.

Superintendent Bob Gray, Officer in Charge Traffic Services Branch, said the number of people ignoring the dangers of speeding was astounding.

“The decision to ignore speed limits that are put in place for everyone’s safety is selfish and stupid,” Superintendent Gray said.
