An elderly driver has been injured in a crash outside Hungry Jacks at Port Adelaide.
Emergency services were called to a two-car crash on Port Rd just after 8am, to find a 72-year-old man trapped inside his grey Mitsubishi.
He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The other, driver, a 25-year-old man in a white Toyota Hill, was not injured.
The Mitsubishi suffered extensive damage, with the man having to be carefully removed from his car by emergency services.
The crash has caused delays for morning commuters on their way to work.
Marshall Ford, from Port Adelaide Collision, was out the front of the shop speaking to a customer when he heard “screeching tyres” and heard a loud bang.
“I was out there doing a quote at the front and the vehicle pulled out, I think it came from the side street from what I can gather,” he said.
“I didn’t see it but I heard the screeching and impact before I turned around.
“From what I can gather, it looks like he accelerated down the street, and then I heard a very short screech of tyres, and then the bang.
“I looked around and I could see that he (white HiLux) had hit the side of the car (grey Mitsubishi).”
Mr Ford said he has witnessed multiple car accidents in the very same spot, and said it was because drivers were attempting to cross four lanes in one go.
“We’ve seen it so many times here before, like, there was one on his roof there one day and it was exactly the same situation,” he said.
“It’s that crossing. They should know that there’s no way you should be allowed to come straight across like that.
“We’ve seen heaps. I’ve seen one on its roof and several others which were minor but it’s the same thing where they come across the four lanes of traffic and it’s not good traffic management at all.
“This morning, I’m guessing the person in the car couldn’t see, because of all the cars, and has gone across and then the ute coming down the road has cleaned him up from the side.”
No charges have been laid.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Southern Expressway was gridlocked after multi-car crashes on the city-bound track.
Police confirmed there was a crash at Lonsdale, between O’Sullivan Beach Rd and Sheriffs Rd.
They said a second crash involving three vehicles on the Southern Expressway at Reynella also caused city-bound delays.
While there have been no reports of injuries, the incident impacted city-bound traffic ahead of the morning peak-hour rush.
Commuters reported traffic was at a standstill with the road resembling a carpark.
