The state’s newest large-scale public artwork pays homage to the River Murray.
It is SA’s fifth silo artwork and the 25th in the country in the Australian Silo Art Trail Collection.
Artists Garry Duncan and Jimmy Dvate were given the brief to create something spectacular on a “healthy river, healthy community” theme.
Duncan, of Kanmantoo, painted his silo totally by hand, not relying on any graphing.
He said his giant semi-abstract river landscape, including many native river creatures, was “about how important our river is and what we stand to lose if we don’t do something”.
The project was funded by the State Government and sponsored by Nature Foundation SA and silo owner Viterra.
