CHEWBACCA was there. So was Mary Poppins, Little Red Riding Hood and Nasty Neville the Pirate King.

But for the hundreds of thousands of kids lining the route for the 2018 Credit Union Christmas Pageant there was only one star of the show — that bearded bloke in the red suit called Santa Claus.

Ol’ Santa must’ve been sweating up a storm — accustomed as he is to North Pole weather — as the second largest parade in the world (beaten only by New York’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade) made its way through the sunny city streets.

Among the more than 300,000-strong crowd was eight-year-old Ashlyn Farrer, of Green Fields, who summed up the opinion of all children when she said, “The Pageant is exciting, but the best bit is that you get to see Santa at the end”.
