Police have asked an Italian car manufacturer for crucial information vital to a case where a $330,000 luxury sports car left the road and killed a teenage girl.

In court on Thursday Craig Caldicott for Alexander Campbell said his client maintained his innocence and would continue trying to get the case thrown out of court.

Campbell was behind the wheel of a white $330,000 Lamborghini Huracan when it veered on to the footpath on Morphett Rd, Glengowrie and struck two teenage girls.

Sophia Naismith, 15, died at the scene, while her friend Jordyn Callea was injured.

The Magistrates Court heard that police had made requests for information to Automobili Lamborghini in Italy, the company which manufactures the luxury sports car, and had been told that they would receive full co-operation.

However, the outbreak of coronavirus in Italy has brought the information gathering to a halt.

It is understood that information on the traction controls in the car would be sought from the engineers responsible for putting the car together.

Sophia was popular teenage was a year 10 student at Brighton High School and a talented volleyball player.

Her death rocked both communities and her funeral was attended by hundreds of students and friends.

Campbell was charged with causing injury and death by dangerous driving by Major Crash detectives.

However, during a hearing in January, Campbell’s lawyer asked for the case to be dropped.

The case has been adjourned for three months with more delays likely as the coronavirus slows down the investigation process.
