South Australian meat to fuel top Aussie swimmers ahead of Paris Olympics

A South Australian food giant is donating local produce to help feed Australia’s elite swimming squad at the Paris Olympics.

The nation’s top swimmers will be fuelled by South Australian lamb and beef as they prepare to go for gold at the Olympic Games in Paris.

South Australian meat exporter Thomas Foods International has offered to donate cartons of lamb and beef to Adelaide chef Chris Jarmer, who will look after the dietary needs of about 75 athletes and staff over five-weeks as they prepare for the games, which are set to take place in July and August.

“Our family company is proud to be providing the best quality Australian meat to these exceptional Australian athletes,” Thomas Foods International managing director Darren Thomas said.

“We’ve known Chris personally for a long time so when he reached out I was more than happy to help.

“We have well established distribution networks across Europe and we’re currently working through the exact details and requirements to ensure Chris has what he needs.”

Mr Jarmer, who runs Jarmer’s Kitchen in Bowden, will be cooking with around 100kg of South Aussie lamb and beef and said it was important to bring a taste of South Australia with him.

“I definitely wanted to have some Australian and South Australian produce,” he said.

“Our lamb is amongst the best in the world and our beef as well.

“From Australia, we’re getting about five [20kg] cartons of beef and lamb and four cartons of kingfish fillets which is produced here in South Australia too.”

Mr Jarmer is set to fly to Brisbane on Saturday before heading to France the following Monday with the advanced team.

He said he couldn’t wait to cook for the athletes with his current menu including slow-roasted porterhouse steak, American-style grill and his signature Thai black pepper chicken.
