South Australian businessman Sam Shahin reveals new go-kart track at Mallala Motorsport Park

Motorsport enthusiasts will be lining up to race on a brand new go-kart track north of Adelaide next month.

A brand new go-kart track north of Adelaide is set to open to the public next month.

The $1m privately funded Kartdrome is the latest development to be completed at the Mallala Motorsport Park and will be ready for racing in April.

Prominent South Australian businessman Dr Sam Shahin said the new go-kart track replicates the main circuit on a smaller scale.

“It’s a miniature Mallala circuit for the connection between the start-finish line and the other side of the track,” he said.

“Turn two of the karting circuit follows the exact geometry of actual turn two of the full circuit at Mallala and so forth.”

Dr Shahin said the project was one of the “most exciting” ventures he had been involved in.

“This go-kart facility was all about reviving, energising and renewing the iconic and historically important Mallala Motorsport Park,” Dr Shahin said.

“There is a lot of history around the Mallala facility and during my ownership, I have done absolutely everything possible to improve it, rejuvinate it and complement it wherever possible.

He said creating the circuit was a key investment in the state’s motorsport future.

“It really demonstrates our commitment, not only to the facility, but our commitment to motorsport in general and to South Australia, as well,” Dr Shahin said.

“For anybody to come off the street, hop in a go-kart and actually now be able to enjoy being on that actual historic circuit will be a wonderful experience and I cannot wait to share it with with the good people of South Australia.”

Dr Shahin has put a call-out for a motorsport enthusiast to join his team and help run the new facility.

“There is a wonderful opportunity for somebody to be part of what is, I think, will be a historic facility in South Australia,” he said.

Applications for a position at Mallala can be found online.

Dr Shahin’s family is estimated to be worth almost $2bn, with Sam and brothers Yasser and Khalil running a network of service stations, gift shops and The Bend Motorsport Park, in addition to the Mallala Motorsport Park.

Their company, Peregrine Corporation, employs about 5000 people in total.
