A TORRENS Park man has been found not guilty of the attempted stabbing murder of his parents at their family home due to his mental incompetence.
A TORRENS Park man has been found not guilty of the attempted stabbing murder of his parents at their family home, due to his mental incompetence.
Nicholas Chattaway, 22, who was Tasered by police after their arrival at the house, had been charged with two counts of attempted murder over the incident in October last year.
His father was found outside and had also suffered stab wounds.
They were taken to the Flinders Medical Centre with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Two psychiatric reports tendered to the Supreme Court had indicated Chattaway was not fit to stand trial over the charges.
Prosecutor Lucy Boord said the Crown did not oppose Chattaway being found not guilty because of his diminished mental capacity.
Justice Anne Bampton ordered he face sentencing submissions in March, 2015, in order for a minimum period of detention in a mental health facility to be set at a later date.
