Smallgoods family business Conroy’s is reportedly cutting around half of its workforce in response to the growing cost of raw materials and an increasingly competitive market, according to 7NEWS.
The network on Friday reported that dozens of workers have been laid off.
A letter obtained by the network states that the business will restructure, which includes shutting down its main boning room operations and ceasing production of volume bacon. Commercial van distribution will also be affected, with fewer delivery driver roles.
However, the butcher shop is expected to continue operations.
The letter stated that the business has been unable to find an alternative position for the workers made redundant within the smaller business.
The company’s chief executive told 7NEWS the decision was made in response to the “rising cost of raw materials and an increasingly competitive market.”
According to the letter, those made redundant will receive entitlements.
It comes as dozens of businesses around the state have been forced to close amid the cost of living crisis and growing operating costs.
