Political commentator Paul Murray is set to host Sky News’ latest episode of Our Town in SA’s very own Riverland town – Renmark.
The one-hour program, which has been running on the network for over five years, will showcase the area to a national audience.
“I want the people who are proud of this city to be able to tell us what they’re proud of,” Murray told The Advertiser.
“We’ll be talking to some people who’ve done some pretty remarkable things with regional mental health, we’ll be doing some tourism stuff … like learning how to make gin.
“It’s a celebration of the area.”
Arriving in the region earlier this week, along with his crew, Murray said the reason he chose Renmark to host this month’s episode was because he wanted to visit the birthplace of cask wine.
“That popped into our heads and we went ‘yeah bugger it let’s go celebrate the place that invented cask wine’,” Murray said.
Our Town highlights towns across Australia when each town is existing as it “normally” does.
“The concept is to turn up when it’s normal, not to turn up when there’s a specific news event,” Murray said.
“It’s not an overt tourism show as much, it’s not Getaway and I don’t think anyone wants to see me coming out of the most pretty waterway in a bikini, but the idea is through people’s personality and through beautiful photography.
“Hopefully people sitting in North Queensland or watching us in Tassie turn around and say ‘yep lets go there for the weekend’.”
