An Adelaide Hills sister duo have opened a new destination brunch cafe in the heart of Mount Barker’s Aston Hills Central Lakes precinct.

Susa Kitchen opened in August, and is the newest venture by Taylah and Maddy Canny – the women behind highly successful Hill’s cafe, Lady Luck.

Announcing the opening on social media, the pair explained how Susa Kitchen is a loving homage to their grandmother “Queen Lizzie” and their Papua New Guinea cultural heritage.

In a post on the cafe’s Instagram account, the sisters said: “Our Grandmother, the guiding light throughout our childhood into adult years comes from Goroka.

“We spent a lot of time around the kitchen table with an abundance of food and often with people from her small town.

“Our nan has dementia now, but just as funny as ever, and the excitement and pride when we tell her about Susa (as if for the first time, damn you dementia) is ohh so bitter sweet.”

Susa Kitchen is set to be a drawcard for the ever-growing Mount Barker area, with stylishly-designed booths, minimalist whitewash interiors and handmade ceramic kitchenware.

The eatery will go from an early-morning coffee spot, with a vast array of brunch offerings, to a lunchtime cocktail spot with a focus on fresh fare.

The pair have confirmed plans to announce their cocktail menu, extend summer trading hours and host live music in the months to come.

“This is a massive extension of our hearts and hope you all continue to enjoy the journey with us,” the sisters said.

Susa Kitchen can be found at 1 Aston Parade, Aston Hill Mt Barker, South Australia.
