THE legacy of London Bridge terror attack victim ‘Angel’ Kirsty Boden’s lives on as a brave cancer survivor attempts a swim challenge in her name.
The family of the young nurse, pictured above, has thrown support behind Simon Joscelyne, who will swim the treacherous strip from the Point Nepean Heads to Point Lonsdale in Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, on Friday.
The 53-year-old Melbourne man said he was inspired by Ms Boden’s heroic of running towards danger in a bid to save the injured when extremists mowed down pedestrians on London Bridge before going on a stabbing frenzy in June.
“I’m one in four people in my family that had cancer and I’m a cancer survivor,” Mr Joscelyne said.
“I spent a lot of time around nurses and I want to do something for nurses.”
Money raised from the challenge will go towards Boden Trust for disadvantaged and migrant children to be given access to surf and aquatic facilities and competitions.
Ms Boden’s British boyfriend, James Hodder, said she would have loved the cause.
“Kirsty would have been delighted that her legacy is being used to raise money for such a worthwhile cause,” he said.
“Simon did not know Kirsty and has organised this off his own initiative.”
