A man has been ordered to stand trial over an alleged CBD fight, almost 12 months ago, that left another man with serious head injuries.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, Shannon Lee Goldsmith pleaded not guilty to one count of intentionally causing harm to another person.

The charge relates to an incident that occurred in the city just after 5am on July 15, 2018.

Police and paramedics were called after a fight broke out between two men near Victoria Street and ended in an assault near Leigh Street.

One man – a 22-year-old from Ceduna – was left unconscious and was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Police arrested Goldsmith, 43, of Gilles Plains soon after, and accused him of causing the injuries.

On Wednesday, counsel for Goldsmith said their client was willing to confess to the lesser charge of recklessly causing harm, but prosecutors had rejected his offer.

He was remanded on continuing bail to face the District Court in September, when a trial date will be set.
