BHP contractor killed in collision at Olympic Dam mine

Police are investigating after a BHP contractor was killed in a collision at Olympic Dam, near Roxby Downs.

A man has died after being involved in an accident at Olympic Dam at Roxby Downs.

The 25-year-old Two Wells man – a contractor at the dam site – was critically injured in a collision within the boundaries of the BHP mine at about 5:30am on Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Major Crash officers attended the scene and are assisting with investigations, while SafeWork SA has been notified.

A BHP spokesperson said the man’s cause of death remained unclear.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that a member of our workforce died this morning at our Olympic Dam site,” they said.

“Our thoughts are with the person’s family, friends and colleagues and we are offering all the support we can during this difficult time.

“We are engaging with SafeWork SA and SAPOL in relation to the incident.”
