A man has been arrested after the horror three-car crash on a busy intersection at Golden Grove, which left one woman dead last week.

The man – a 61-year-old Hillbank man – driving the Ford Territory was arrested by Major Crash Investigators on Thursday for allegedly causing death by dangerous driving and causing harm by dangerous driving.

Police previously said they were investigating whether the Hillbank man was involved in a rear-ender hit and run shortly before the fatal crash.

He appeared to have T-boned the driver’s seat of the Hyundai.

He has been granted bail to appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court on June 3.

The accident

Just after 12pm on Wednesday, February 28 police and paramedics were called to the intersection of Atlantis Drive and The Grove Way after reports of a crash that blocked traffic heading westbound.

Police said that a red Ford Territory had been travelling south along The Grove Way and collided with a blue Hyundai sedan and grey Toyota Corolla.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 32-year-old Blair Athol woman, died at the scene.

The 61-year-old Hillbank man driving the Ford was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, as was the driver of the Toyota, a 42-year-old Golden Grove woman.

The victim remained in the car while Major Crash officers investigated.

Emergency services hoisted a screen around the crash site, removing the body just after 4pm with the aid of hydraulic equipment.

A construction worker who was at a service station on the intersection said he heard a loud bang when the crash happened.

When he ran outside, he said about 10 people had rushed out to help the injured person.

“I couldn’t make heads or tails of what was going on,” he said.

The intersection remains closed and motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

Police have also asked for dashcam footage of the red Ford Territory travelling south along The Grove Way at around 12.10pm.

Rashmi Sharma, 45, owns the restaurant Indian Brasserie, on the opposite corner from the crash site, and said she was preparing for dinner service when it happened.

“I went outside maybe half an hour after and there were ambulances everywhere, and the police were just telling people to keep moving,” she said.

Mrs Sharma said while she was unsure how the accident occurred, the intersection was notorious among locals because of the lack of turning right arrows along Atlantis Drive.

“You get accidents here because there is no green arrow going that way, so they just keep going,” she said.

“The last one happened maybe a month and a half ago, but this is the first time I’ve seen one like this.”

It comes as police investigate another fatal crash at nearby Brahma Lodge, where a car slammed into a tree on Main North Rd on Wednesday morning, killing the 31-year-old driver from Campbelltown.

The red SUV struck a large gum tree on the medium strip between the north and southbound lanes of the busy thoroughfare.

One passer-by told The Advertiser they heard the collision and the scene was “horrific”.
