Vinnies spokesman Gavin Dufty said to get the best deal, customers need to shop around.

He said the Energy Made Easy website was a free tool to compare plans.

“A number of factors lead to these price fluctuations such as changes in wholesale prices and retailer exposure to this, changes in the cost of poles and wires or the gas pipes in the ground, green schemes costs and retail margins,” he said.

“(To) make sure you’re on the best deal, shop around – you snooze you loose.”
