SOUTH Australians will be permitted inside the new Royal Adelaide Hospital to see it for themselves at open days ahead of an anticipated midyear opening for patients.
Health Minister Jack Snelling on Monday said he felt like “a proud dad” while showing off the $2.3 billion to a selection of clinicians and journalists who toured public areas and patient wards.
The Government expected to enter 90 days of intense testing later this month.
An opening in mid-June is considered possible, but could be delayed due to flu season.
The Government is also yet to resolve some disputes with the builder over alleged safety flaws.
The parties have agreed to having an independent umpire rule on their claims, with possible compensation or partial reconstruction to take place depending on the findings.
Mr Snelling said the hospital would be a “game-changer” for the health system when open.
“What strikes me, going around this hospital, is the way its been thought out,” he said.
“There’s all sorts of little things that are going to make enormous improvements to patient care.”
He said that included extra clinical equipment, natural light and opening windows.
Mr Snelling said the move would only proceed when it was safe to do so.
Premier Jay Weatherill said the testing period could begin as soon as next week.
