THE government body which decides how much consumers are charged for electricity and gas networks and enforces market rules has a new boss.
Victorian Clare Savage has been appointed chair of the Australian Energy Regulator, effective from October 14.
“Ms Savage has extensive experience in electricity and gas market design, network pricing, retail market regulation and energy governance,” Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Energy Minister Angus Taylor said in a joint announcement.
“Most recently, through her role as the independent deputy chair of the Energy Security Board, Ms Savage promoted better co-ordination between each of the three energy market bodies to enable a whole of system approach and oversaw the delivery of a number of key Finkel Review recommendations.
“The skills and experience Ms Savage brings to the AER will help ensure the energy sector is effectively monitored and operating in the best interests of Australian consumers and the economy.”
Ms Savage has worked in the private sector and for membership-based organisations, including stints at the Business Council of Australia, TRUEnergy, EnergyAustralia and the Energy Supply Association of Australia.
