SOUTH Australia’s official unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since 2012 — as 19,000 jobs were created in the state over the past year.

Unemployment rate remains steady for June

SOUTH Australia’s official unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since 2012 after 19,000 jobs were created in the state over the past year.

The state’s unemployment rate was a seasonally-adjusted 5.4 per cent in June — down from 5.6 per cent in May, figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday show.

That is the lowest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate since it was 5.3 per cent in November 2012.

In trend terms, the June unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.6 per cent.

Strong job creation saw the number of people in jobs hit 843,700 — up by 1,700 from the previous month.

The national unemployment rate remained unchanged at a seasonally-adjusted 5.4 per cent.

While SA had the lowest seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate, in trend terms NSW (4.8 per cent), Victoria (5.3 per cent), the Northern Territory (4.1 per cent) and the ACT (3.5 per cent) performed more strongly over the past month.
