A 19-year-old man has died after the car he was a passenger in allegedly sped off to evade police and crashed into a group of trees.
A 19-year-old man has died after the car he was a passenger in plunged down a gully and crashed into a group of trees while allegedly trying to evade police.
Just after 10.30pm on Wednesday, police spotted a silver 2001 Ford sedan speeding south on Nelson Rd in Para Hills.
An unmarked police Commodore used its siren to try to stop the car, but the pursuit was called off after the Ford accelerated away.
A short time after, police say the driver of the Ford lost control and crashed into a group of trees before coming to a stop in a creek bed just south of where Nelson Rd intersects with Murrell Rd.
The 19-year-old male passenger from Salisbury died at the scene.
The male driver, 18, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and is in a serious condition.
Major Crash investigators attended the scene and are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The crash has renewed calls from residents for greater safety measures on Nelson Rd.
