Fire danger season looms as Adelaide weather heats up to mid 30s

ADELAIDE will turn up the heat this week as the fire season looms for a number of areas including the Yorke Peninsula, with the mercury climbing  to the mid-30s by Wednesday.

Weather Explained: Fire weather warnings

ADELAIDE is set for a long-awaited taste of summer this week, but the fire season looms.

Tuesday is forecast 28C and sunny, setting up for a couple of scorchers to follow. Wednesday is expected to hit 33C, while Thursday is currently forecast 36C, which would be the hottest day in over 6 months.

South Australians may rejoice in the warmer weather, but danger is on the way.

The fire danger season has already started for a number of areas across the state.

Last Monday, CFS brought the fire season forward a week early for the Flinders, North East Pastoral and North West Pastoral. The Lower South East District also began their fire season last week.

But Thursday will see the beginning of the fire season for the majority of other areas including the Murraylands, Yorke Peninsula and the Mid North.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of a "very high" risk of fire in the Mount Lofty Ranges today, while it remains "low-moderate" for the Adelaide metro area.

It will remain dry on Tuesday and Wednesday but Thursday is expected to see a possible shower.

Friday is predicted to be 26C with thunderstorms after a cool change comes through overnight.
