A young batsman from the Sandy Creek Cricket Club has broken the Barossa and Light Cricket Association’s record, scoring the highest innings with 317 not out during a match on Saturday.
Ethan Morrow’s record-breaking run in his team’s match against Freeling smashed the previous record held by Sam Carmichael of 277 while also becoming the club’s first triple century.
The 23-year-old FIFO machine operator, who also hit 146 balls, 34 sixes and 15 fours, has been playing at Sandy Creek since he was seven and was “still in disbelief” at Saturday’s result.
“It was pretty special, never thought I’d make a score like that so I’m sort of still in shock with my score,” he said.
“I just went out to have some fun and it just happened after I got to 100. It just went from there.
“But obviously I’m super stoked and the team helped out quite a bit, so that was good too.”
Mr Morrow also had the support of his parents, who are also FIFO workers, on the sidelines who were thrilled at the result.
“Mum and dad were there to see it, so that was nice and they were pretty proud,” he said.
“All three of us work FIFO, so we’re not always home at the same time, so it was pretty good to be together.”
To sweeten the deal, Morrow was rewarded with many “free beers” at the club with his teammates after the match.
Morrow’s 238 run partnership with fellow batsman Angus Adams also set a new club record for the third wicket and has since been dubbed the Cockie’s “second best partnership of all time.”
His efforts not only propelled his team to victory, but also set a record for the highest team score of 2/398, breaking Lyndoch’s previous record of 6/371.
