THE SACE Board has identified the student who circulated a hoax letter on Facebook suggesting thousands of Year 12 biology students would have to resit their biology exam.
The board said on Thursday afternoon it was “aware the hoax letter came from a student and we are working in conjunction with the student’s school to determine an appropriate course of action”.
The letter, using SACE Board letterhead, claimed there was a “significant breach in the integrity” of Monday’s exam sat by 3645 students.
It claimed the SACE Board was “not at liberty to divulge the exact nature of the breach” but it involved a significant number of students being “unfairly advantaged”.
In an earlier statement the SACE Board made clear the letter was a hoax.
“The fake letter was published on SACE Board letterhead and included a copied signature of the acting chief executive Jan Raymond,” the board said.
“It suggested that there was a serious breach in the biology examination and that every student would need to resit this examination.
“The SACE Board would like to reassure students that this letter was a hoax and there was no breach, and so no student will need to resit this examination.
“All other examinations will continue as per the published timetable.
“The SACE Board views this hoax as a very serious issue and is investigating its origin.”
