SA travel voucher scheme third round opens 9am Wednesday morning

More discount travel vouchers on offer from 9am on Wednesday, offering cheap deals – but things are different this time. Here’s how to get one.

The third round of the Great State Voucher program launches Wednesday at 9am – this time, for up to $200 off guided and hosted tours and experiences.

The public will have the chance to try secure a $50, $100 or $200 voucher via a randomised electronic ballot open until 10pm on Friday April 23 at southaustralia.com/voucher.

On entering, participants will need to nominate for one voucher type:

SINGLE-DAY draw where winners are allocated either a $50 or a $100 voucher at random;

MULTI-DAY, overnight experience voucher draw worth $200.

Consumers can enter the ballot only once. It’s open to all South Australians over the age of 18 and to adult residents of NSW and Victoria – our state’s key tourism markets.

Bookings open on April 27 until 11.59pm on May 23 for travel from April 27 until July 31, including Saturdays and July school holidays.

Some 250 operators are involved included shark-cage diving, Segway tours, River Torrens canoeing, tours of the Central Market, gin making and multi-day River Murray tours.

South Australian Tourism Commission chief executive Rodney Harrex said the two previous rounds targeted at accommodation saw more than 62,000 room-night bookings and a flow-on of more than $32m spent in the state’s visitor economy.

“This is a great opportunity to get out about in our great state and see a little bit more of the incredible experiences South Australia has to offer,” he said.

“It is a stimulus program that has proven to work, and this round targeted to hosted tour and experience operators is crucial – this sector has been hit hard by the downturn in international and interstate visitation.

“Many South Australians will be surprised at how many exciting and entertaining experiences we have on offer in SA – in the city there’s Segway tours, a guided tour of the iconic Central Market, Adelaide Oval roof climbs, a ‘ghost tour’ of the Old Adelaide gaol, canoeing along the River Torrens or a panda experience at the Adelaide Zoo.

“In the regions, everything from shark-cage diving to swimming with sealions, multi-day tours of the Murray River or the Outback, snorkelling, stand-up paddle boarding, gin making, wine masterclasses, cooking schools and more are available.

“These are experiences South Australians might ordinarily have overlooked while holidaying at home – so on the back of a summer of record occupancy rates in regions, we’re giving South Aussies the chance to experience SA like they never have before, to tell their friends and get even more people booking up with local tour and experience operators.”
