Police have found a cache of weapons buried on the property of a Flinders Ranges man.

An extensive search was conducted by the Serious Firearm Crime Investigation Section, Far North CIB detectives and patrols, with help from police dog Orbit on the property, located north of Quorn, on Thursday.

Officers allegedly found five rifles, a pistol and numerous rounds of ammunition buried under a wool bale and logs at his rural home.

The discovery was made as part of an investigation into an investigation into a firearms theft from a Quorn property in July 2023.

The firearms will be forensically examined with the investigation still ongoing.

The 33-year-old man faces grave firearms charges, including criminal trespass, theft, aggravated possession of a prescribed firearm, aggravated possession of a H-class firearm, four counts of aggravated possession of a firearm without a licence and breach of intervention order.

The accused man was refused bail and is due to appear at the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on January 3.
