A POLICE officer charged by SAPOL’s Anti-Corruption Branch for allegedly stealing a baseball bat has faced court.

Matthew Adrian Newland, 30, of Huntfield Heights, has been charged with an aggravated count of dishonestly take property without consent at Craigmore in July.

The charge is aggravated because Newland is a serving police officer.

Court documents allege the theft relates to a baseball bat valued at $2500 or less.

Newland made a brief appearance in the Adelaide Magistrates Court where his matter was adjourned so that prosecutors could make further disclosures to defence lawyers.

He will next appear in December.
