Has SA Liberal leader David Speirs ever looked as good as he did at a recent outing at Chinatown in Adelaide?

Social media photos of the opposition leader at the recent Lunar New Year Street Party have had Instagram users comparing a photo of Mr Speirs to a Ken doll – Barbie’s male counterpart.

He is sporting smooth skin, a chiselled jaw line and strikingly white teeth in a social media upload by the opposition’s tourism spokeswoman Jing Lee at the popular community event.

Ms Lee confirmed to The Advertiser that a filter was used on the photo.

“The Lunar New Year Street Party was a fun event and – in the spirit of that celebration – I posted a picture of myself and a colleague with a filter, which is not uncommon on my social media,” she said.

“Capturing special moments is important across so many Asian cultures and I’m surprised at the fuss over this picture at a multicultural event.”

The Advertiser also reached out to Mr Speirs’ office.

The photo was uploaded in a post from Ms Lee celebrating multicultural South Australia and paying tribute to the committee and volunteers at Chinatown Adelaide SA Inc for hosting “another successful LNY Street Party”.

“Lunar New Year is celebrated by so many different cultures and our multicultural communities in South Australia,” she said in the post.

“One of most popular community events enjoy by all ages in Adelaide is the Chinatown Adelaide’s annual Lunar New Year Street Party – lots of fun activities, delicious street food, spectacular traditional and contemporary performances.

“Wonderful to be invited to the street party and great to visit many stalls and talk to community members, businesses, stall holders.”
