SA Government reveals multipurpose concept plans for Repatriation General Hospital

CONCEPT plans released by the State Government could help revive the Repatriation General Hospital and give it a dynamic future.

THE Repatriation General Hospital could have a future as a specialist rehabilitation hub, a multi-day elective surgery centre or a live-in “transition care” facility under concept plans released by the State Government.

The proposals were presented to a community forum in the southern suburbs on Wednesday night, as the Government ploughs ahead with its plan to restore the Repat as a health precinct.

Restoring the Repat was a key plank of the Liberal Party’s election platform.

In May, Health and Wellbeing Minister Stephen Wade tore up a $200 million contract struck with ACH Group for them to transform the site into a series of “health facilities, education, cafes and accommodation”.

Mr Wade said the new concept plans had been developed as part of initial consultation, and the Government would now work with the community and stakeholders to determine the best way forward.

“Each of the concepts has a particular focus on the type of services that could be provided, including multi-day surgery, rehabilitation services or care transition services,” he said.

“However, these concepts are only indicative of the types of services that could work on the site, and we want to hear from the community about which services they think would best support the health system and most benefit the community.”

Each of the concept plans involves a specialist older person’s mental health service, a children’s support service hub, veterans’ homelessness accommodation, a statewide eating disorder service and open space.

They all also include telemedicine, a care transition facility and enduring mental health services.
