AN ALLEGED firebug has been ordered to stand trial over claims he sparked 11 blazes that damaged cars, homes and property — and tried to burn down a McDonald’s restaurant.

Garry John Trestrail, 23, of Morphett Vale, faced the District Court today by video link with Mount Gambier Prison.

Dressed in a Holden V8 team jacket, he pleaded not guilty to seven counts of causing a bushfire, four counts of arson and one count of attempted arson.

Trestrail allegedly went on a firebug spree across Morphett Vale, McLaren Flat, Noarlunga Centre and Happy Valley between January 29 and February 7 this year.

Most of those blazes were allegedly lit between February 5 and 7, with Onkaparinga Hills residents describing a “wall of flame” that woke them and burned 4ha of scrub.

The documents claim the fires allegedly lit by Trestrail damaged a house, a car, two buildings, two industrial bins and a haystack.

Trestrail is further accused of attempting to set fire to the McDonald’s restaurant at Noarlunga Centre during the arson spree, as well as a flooring business and a car parts outlet.

Today, Judge Paul Muscat remanded Trestrail in custody to stand trial, and ordered he face a pre-trial directions hearing next month.
