South Australians who own child sex dolls would face years in jail under new laws aimed at stopping paedophiles from being encouraged to act out their depraved fantasies.

Childlike sex dolls are expected will be banned in South Australia by early next year, after proposed laws won the support of the Attorney-General Vickie Chapman.

The ban was prompted after SA Police revealed the objects had been discovered in South Australia during several child sex investigations.

SA Best MP Connie Bonaros, who has led the charge against the “repulsive objects”, will now write to other states and territories urging them to do the same.

  • People found in possession of sex dolls that look like children would be jailed for up to 10 years under the laws.
  • Ms Bonaros said experts have warned that “these kinds of perverse, sickening dolls” can normalise abusive behaviour towards children, encourage the sexualisation of children and increase the likelihood that a paedophile will engage in sexual activity with or towards children.

“There is absolutely no evidence — none — that these sex dolls have any therapeutic benefit in preventing child abuse.

“Manufacturers go to significant lengths to offer a range of tailored options including being able to select skin, hair and eye colour, facial features and body shape — that’s sickening.”

Attorney-General, Vicki Chapman, has committed to sponsoring the Bill in the Lower House, guaranteeing the new laws pass through state parliament.

“As flagged last month, the Marshall Liberal Government agrees that these types of abhorrent products should not be on the market in South Australia,” Ms Chapman said.

“It’s vital our parliament work together on important child protection issues such as these, and I commend Ms Bonaros for bringing this issue to light.”
