Supreme Court Chief Justice Chris Kourakis today announced Tom Cox and Mark Norman had been appointed Senior Counsel - the honour once known as Queen's Counsel.

An award-winning graduate with internationally-gained experience in criminal and commercial law, Mr Cox works from Hanson Chambers in the city.

He graduated from the University of Adelaide and went on to further study at Columbia University Law School in New York.

Between 1994 and 1996, Mr Cox worked for the Officer of the Director of Public Prosecutions and, later, assisted the Solicitor General in constitutional law issues.

From 1997 to 2004 he worked for a major US law firm - Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton - and took on work spanning nine countries.

Born and raised in the UK, Mr Norman is a law, English and Arts graduate who was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales in 1989.

He worked in private practice for 16 years before immigrating to Australia with his family in 2005 to join the ODPP.

Mr Norman was appointed a senior prosecutor in 2007 and became an Australian citizen in 2009.

In a statement, Chief Justice Kourakis said he was "delighted" to announce the appointments.
