The hugely popular annual R.M. Williams clearance sale at the Adelaide Showground will make a long-awaited return after a three-year absence, coinciding with AFL Gather Round.
Cancelled in 2023 by the renowned Adelaide-based boot and apparel maker because of insufficient stock, the sale will be held from April 11 to 22.
R.M. Williams chief executive officer Paul Grosmann told The Advertiser the iconic event would include rare discounts on leather boots, clothing and accessories.
“We are beyond excited to bring back the legendary Wayville sale to the Adelaide community,” he said.
“R.M. Williams rarely provides discounts but the sale at the Adelaide Showground is an acknowledgment of Adelaide’s unique contribution to the R.M. Williams story, as its historic home and centre of manufacturing and distribution.”
Chief operating officer Tara Moses said the brand’s origins were deeply tied to South Australia.
“Not only is our original workshop at Percy St, Prospect, on the tug of every boot, our best-selling leather boots and belts are still crafted by hand in Adelaide, alongside an ever-growing range of apparel, accessories and lifestyle products,” she said.
“As the brand continues to expand globally, we see the Wayville sale as an opportunity to say thank you to the local community where our team and operations are based,” she said.
R.M. Williams employs more than 400 people at its Salisbury South workshop and distribution centre.
The production space has more than doubled since the firm was bought in 2020 by Tattarang, the private investment group owned by Andrew and Nicola Forrest.
“We are passionate about growing and nurturing the future of Australian craftsmanship in Adelaide and creating opportunities and space for new generations to hone their craft,” Mr Grosmann said.
