Revealed: What these Adelaide suburbs love on Spotify
WHAT are your neighbours listening to? Statistics from music streaming giant Spotify has sung some fascinating songs about the listening habits of these Adelaide suburbs.
BURNSIDE burghers need to relax, the people of Victor Harbor are down with their downward dogs and the good folks of Mt Barker are struggling to get their kids to go to sleep.
These are some of the fascinating insights into our suburbs revealed through the analysis of music streaming service Spotify.
Spotify, which has 180 million users worldwide, crunched the numbers on the greater Adelaide region — with some interesting results.
Firstly, we really like Dean Lewis. Really. The Aussie singer-songwriter’s hit song Be Alright has completely dominated Spotify listening in Adelaide over the past three months, coming in at the number one spot in Glenelg, Mt Barker, Port Adelaide, Stirling, Thebarton, Unley, the Adelaide CBD, Elizabeth and Gawler.
Worldwide, the song has had more than 190 million Spotify plays worldwide.
Another massively popular song across the Adelaide area is In My Feelings, by Canadian rapper Drake. Hopefully it wasn’t due to South Australians doing the “Kiki challenge”, a bizarre internet phenomenon where people play the song in their car while dancing outside their vehicle and letting it drive itself. A number of people have been injured overseas attempting the “challenge”.
Perhaps the most interesting revelations were in the suburbs that bucked the Dean Lewis trend.
Burnside listeners revealed that they were possibly struggling to relax after a hard day of merchant banking by pushing Soothing Ocean Waves by Nature Sounds to the top of their chart. Either that or they’re pining for their Carrickalinga beach houses during the week.
Mt Barker, one of the state’s fastest-growing and youngest regions of SA, are obviously having bed time issues, with White Noise for Baby Sleep coming in at number two. Whether it actually works, or whether Mt Barker parents are just using it to drown out the noise hasn’t been determined.
And down in Victor Harbor, home of sea changers and retirees, Yoga Healing by Cameron DeLuca took out the number one spot.
Victor Harbor yoga instructor Candice Hooper said her town was the perfect place to practice the ancient art.
“It’s a very welcoming place, there’s no ‘scene’,” Ms Hooper said.
“It’s not about what you look like or what you wear, and we have everyone from little children to people over 70 doing yoga.”
