The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court yesterday over the incident outside Manto Cafe, on George Street near The Parade about 5.45pm Sunday.
Police allege the attacker, 28, of Aldinga Beach, was one of two men inside a stolen white Mitsubishi, which struck a cafe patron, Jeph Ko, 33, before dragging him up to 40m along the road.
Prosecutors allege the thieves tried to snatch his laptop during the incident, which occurred in front of shocked cafe patrons.
Investigators are forensically examining the van used in the crime after it was found dumped and torched early on Monday on River Rd, Port Noarlunga.
Mr Ko, a Taiwan-born photographer, remains in a serious condition in the Royal Adelaide Hospital’s intensive care unit.
On Wednesday the charged man stood expressionless in the dock as his lawyer, Casey Isaacs did not apply for bail.
The man has yet to plead to one count each of aggravated commit robbery using force, aggravated cause serious harm to another, making off without a payment, fabricate, alter or conceal evidence and fail to answer a question-identity.
He is also is accused of using an offensive weapon, that he made off with a laptop valued up to $2500 and then drove off without paying for patrol at Glenunga, the court heard.
Prosecutors successfully applied for suppression orders that prevent The Advertiser from publishing his name or image as investigations continued into the incident.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Dr Andrew Cannon remanded the man in custody to face court again in September.
Police say further charges are possible as the second man allegedly involved in the robbery and hit-run crash remained at large last night.
On Monday, a 23-year-old man, who has not been named, was charged him with impeding in the investigation.
Police will allege this man, also from Aldinga Beach, in Adelaide’s south, assisted with the destruction of the white van used in the incident.
He was granted police bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court next month.
