Flooding hits popular SA roads as summer storm sweeps city bringing steady rain, wind warnings

Marion and Goodwood Road are flooding as a summer storm sweeps across the city, with warnings for damaging wind in SA’s northeast.

Summer storms have sweeped through Adelaide causing major delays on popular peak hour roads.

Traffic has been down to one lane on Goodwood Road at Colonel Light Gardens where the road is flooded.

Marion Rd has also been flooded after a surprising summer storm dumped steady rainfall across the state today.

Cars were seen driving through the wet and wild terrain on the busy road just before Alawoona Ave.

Emergency services were also called to Henley Beach Rd, Lockleys, after reports of a blocked drain with rising water covering footpaths, with reports houses were being threatened.

The BOM has issued a warning for damaging winds in the North East Pastoral and parts of Flinders and North West Pastoral districts.

Locations that may be affected include Roxby Downs, Leigh Creek, Marree, Hawker, Woomera and Arkaroola.

The wet weather began not long after lunch, with a chance of a thunderstorm as the humid conditions continue.

Moist air with a dew point of 17.9 at 6am today means the temperature will feel like 24.8 degrees making the day slightly humid – the relative humidity is 77 per cent.

The highest expected temperature today is 26, which is 4 degrees lower than yesterday’s max.

However, in the Far North, a high of 48C is predicted for Moomba while the max high for Robe in the state’s South-East is just 20C.

The cloudy weather comes after Adelaide hit a top of 41.2C in the city on Tuesday – with the mercury soaring to over 45C in the state’s Far North.

Rain is expected to clear in time for the Australia Day public holiday which is set for a top of 24C with similar conditions expected on Saturday with 24C also predicted.

The weather will start to heat up again on Sunday, with a max of 29C predicted before the temperature hits 34C on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Tuesday, January 30: Mostly sunny. Fresh S’ly winds Min – 20. Max – 34.

Wednesday, January 31: Mostly sunny. SE winds Min – 17. Max – 30.
