A champion harness racing horse has died, just weeks after the owners announced he was for sale.
Saint Sebastian died during a race at the Globe Derby Park on Saturday, the circumstances of which have not been revealed.
Earlier this month, owner Samantha Hill announced that Saint Sebastian was for sale, following a three-peat of wins, including the Emerging Stars Trotters Final at Globe Derby Park on June 28.
Ms Hill referenced the horse’s death on Facebook on Sunday.
“Proud of the boys and a great run from Harry to lift everyone's spirits after a very sad night,” she said.
“Rest in peace Sebby.”
Ms Hill described Saint Sebastian as a “handy horse” in an interview with Australian Harness Racing in early July.
She said she had tried on several occasions to buy the horse, before finally getting him in mid-2024.
“When he finally became available about this time last year, I got him straight away,” she said.
“He has done a good job since I’ve had him.”
Ms Hill did not provide a comment on Saint Sebastian’s death when contacted by The Advertiser.
Harness Racing South Australia and the South Australian Breeders Owners Trainers and Reinsperson Association were both contacted for comment.
