The public will be able to get up close to South Australia’s only statue of Queen Elizabeth II.
The life-size bronze sculpture of the monarch, by acclaimed SA artist Robert Hannaford, will be open to for viewing from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7 in the grounds of Government House.
Mr Hannaford, Governor Hue Van Le and Premier Steven Marshall formally presented the statue to the Queen, who spoke to the trio in an edited chat released by Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, March 2.
Mr Hannaford had a 30-minute private sitting with the Queen for the sculpture which is one of three of its type in Australia and the only contemporary representation of the monarch.
The statue is located outside the Government House morning room, where the Queen received guests during her final visit to Adelaide in 2002.
“We have been gratified by the very positive response domestically and internationally, to the new statue of the Queen,” His Excellency Hu Van Le said.
The statue was privately funded by 20 donors who wanted to pay tribute to the long-reigning monarch.
Entry to the viewing is free. The house will not be open.
