HOLLYWOOD starlet Teresa Palmer has headed to her blog to send the message out: “Let the ladies pee”. Especially when they’re pregnant.

It follows a shopping trip through Glenelg on Friday when three different shop owners refused to give permission to use their bathrooms when Palmer desperately needed to relieve herself.

She lamented on a video blog posted on her website, Your Zen Mama, that her second pregnancy has made her need to pee … all the time.

“When I need to pee, I need to pee,” she told her online followers.

“Today, I was at Glenelg in Adelaide and we were doing a bit of shopping, all of a sudden the urge came on and I was like: ‘I need to pee!’.

“So, I went from shop to shop — went to three different shops — and they could definitely tell I’m pregnant and I asked to use the bathroom and they’re like: ‘No, the bathroom’s not for customers’ and I was like: ‘Please, I have a baby sitting on my bladder, like I’m desperate’ and they’re like: ‘Hmmm, sorry, it’s store policy’.

“I was like: ‘Come on, guys’.”

Palmer’s message is clear: “Let the ladies pee: If we’re quite obviously pregnant, it’s not like we have a lot of time before we’re going to pee our pants because there’s a baby sitting on our bladder.”

But Jetty Road Mainstreet Committee chairman, Mark Faulkner, has leapt to Glenelg’s defence.

“Glenelg is a family-friendly precinct, and we have public toilets right along Jetty Rd and the foreshore, and our many restaurants, cafes and hotels would be happy to make their customer toilets available to someone who’s clearly in need,” he said.

“It can very tricky for small shops with only one or two staff to allow people access to staff-only areas.

“I’m sorry that Ms Palmer had this experience and I’m sure that if she comes to Glenelg again, she will find lots of friendly people willing to help her to the closest available toilet.”

Mr Faulkner said public toilets were “right along Jetty Road” at the Bayside Village, in Nile St, on the Glenelg Foreshore (in the Glenelg Town Hall building) and in the Bay Discover Centre (during opening hours).

It seems Palmer’s knight in shining armour came in the form of a Mexican restaurant (which she didn’t name): “Finally, a lovely man at a taco place was like: ‘Of course, oh my gosh, my wife just gave birth, I know exactly what you’re going through’ and he let me use his bathroom.”

It seems this is a cause close to the hearts of Palmer and the co-author of Your Zen Mama, Sarah Olsen. Olsen wrote on May 31 about a shopping trip through Los Angeles where she was refused permission to use a bathroom in a lingerie store on Melrose Ave.
