A MOTHER and father are facing criminal neglect charges over the treatment of a four-month-old baby at Port Pirie.

The baby boy was flown to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in a critical condition on September 13.

He underwent intensive medical treatment and is now recovering.

The infant and two other children were removed from the parents by the Child Protection Department.

A joint investigation into the treatment of the baby was launched by the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Child Protection Services, the Child Protection Department and SA Police.

As a result, detectives arrested a 31-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both from Port Pirie, and charged them with criminal neglect.

They were refused police bail and will appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on Friday.
