Port Adelaide riverfront to be site of $35m hotel development

Port Adelaide’s riverfront will be home to a new multimillion-dollar six-storey hotel, adjacent to the beloved British Hotel. See the plans.

Plans have been submitted for a new $35m hotel development on Port Adelaide’s riverfront set to comprise 90 rooms across six storeys.

The development plans for the hotel, submitted by Hans Ehmann of the of the Neville Smith Group, will have extensive floor-to-ceiling glass, balconies overlooking the hills and river and gym facilities.

Guests will also have access to premium dining in The British Hotel Port Adelaide, located adjacent to the site.

The site is for the development has been earmarked as 10 and 12 North Pde, Port Adelaide.

The hotel, to be named Quest II, follows the first Quest Hotel in Port Adelaide by Mr Ehmann in 2016.

“This hotel development will be a significant addition to the Port’s waterfront landscape and will provide a boost to the tourism sector, driving domestic and international visitor spend to the area,” Mr Ehmann said.

“The hotel will not only support increased visitation and stay demands but provide a hub to retain the economic activity locally.”

Construction of the hotel, to be undertaken by Mossop Construction and Interiors, is scheduled to begin at the end of 2023 and is set to be completed by mid 2025.

“We are delighted to be involved in this significant hotel development adding further commercial uplift enhancing Port Adelaide’s future,” managing director Neil Mossop said.

And rooms at the hotel are set to have spectacular views with half of the apartments facing the Port River and Semaphore while the other half will be orientated towards the Adelaide Hills.

“We have worked with leading architects and consultants to develop a property design that celebrates the prominent site showcasing its key focal points,” Mr Ehmann said.

Local products will be front of mind for the developers of the project, with Australian products and South Australian contractors used “wherever possible”.

The same developers also have submitted plans to authorities on a 5750 sqm retail precinct to be located at the former Smiths of Port Adelaide site at 271 Commercial Rd.

They are in negotiation with four leading retail brands for the new precinct.

“I am proud to be able to provide a new shopping experience for the Port Adelaide community that previously has not been available in the area,” Mr Ehmann said.

“The retail mix is going to be exemplary.”
