As of Saturday morning, Qantas flights departing from Adelaide for Sydney on September 20 – and landing in time for the first siren of the match – were priced between $597 and a whopping $1723.

Qantas’ budget airline Jetstar, typically known for its cheap tickets, also surged – with prices from $678 to $1041.

In comparison, Qantas last Wednesday listed one-way flights from Adelaide to Sydney for September 20 available from $339 and Jetstar had one-way flights available from $171.

Similarly, Virgin flights for Friday are selling for $673 and $1264.

A Virgin Australia spokesperson said Port Adelaide’s win on Friday had impacted the price of domestic flights.

“Virgin Australia has seen significant demand for flights between Adelaide and Sydney following the outcome of the Port Adelaide v Hawthorn game on Friday evening,” they told The Advertiser.

“We are committed to helping AFL fans get to and from games during the Finals and will review our schedule again early next week in relation to flights for the preliminary final in Sydney next Friday.”

Meanwhile, the Webjet website is not displaying any flights from Adelaide on September 20 or 21.

After selecting those dates, the website displays a message to say: “Sorry, there are no flights on this day”.

“Flights to this destination may not operate daily. Please select ‘previous day’ or ‘next day’ links above to check availability on an alternate day.”
