A long-serving South Australian councillor and much-loved surf lifesaving volunteer has died aged 67.

Port Adelaide Enfield councillor and longstanding surf lifesaving volunteer Peter Jamieson has died aged 67.
Mr Jamieson, of North Haven, had served with the council since 2003 and had given nearly 50 years of his life to Surf Life Saving SA, joining the organisation in 1972.
“Peter has been widely regarded in the community for his advocacy and work for environmental and coastal matters and his career in education,” the council said in a statement on its Facebook page.
“He was also a long standing and active member of the North Haven Surf Life Saving Club and served Surf Life Saving (SA) for 48 years.
“Peter was a proud local and known for his strong commitment and passion for his community and will be missed as a valued member of council.”
A council spokesman said Mr Jamieson passed away peacefully on Wednesday night (June 16).
Mr Jamieson was a former deputy mayor and represented the Outer Harbour ward.
SSLSA described Mr Jamieson as a “much-loved” and “passionate and dedicated” member of the organisation.
He had accumulated 6631 patrol hours and in 2006 was awarded SSLSA’s National Medal for 33 years of patrol.
He was SA Lifesaver of the Year in 2002 and 2012.
His death led to outpouring of tributes on social media with people describing him as kind, generous, a gentleman and mentor.
He is survived by his wife Bronwyn and sons Troy and Brad.
