A rebrand has begun across all X Convenience service stations after global petrol giant BP agreed to acquire the popular South Australian family-owned business.

In May, BP announced its intention to acquire X Convenience and has started supplying fuel to X Convenience sites across South Australia and Western Australia.

X Convenience remains a third-party business until the acquisition completes, with BP expecting to complete the sale in 2025.

X Convenience was established by the Adelaide-based Kosmidis family in 2006, and has rapidly grown its footprint since as a primary fuel retailer.

Similar to its larger rival, OTR, X Convenience designed their stores to offer a range of in-store concepts including Coffee Station, Smokes Express, Burger X and Down Dog ‘N Shakes – all designed to generate a larger share of customer spend on products in-store.

As part of the deal BP will replace Mobil as fuel supplier to the X Convenience network, where customers will be able to use BP’s fuel cards.

BP also sees an opportunity to use the X Convenience sites to accelerate the rollout of its electric vehicle chargers. It has so far installed more than 120 BP pulse charge points across its network of 1200 sites across the country

Meanwhile, OTR servos in SA are also being rebranded, after the OTR group – owned by Adelaide’s Shahin family, and formerly branded as On The Run – sold its petrol and convenience empire to ASX-listed Viva Energy for $1.15bn.

Viva Energy is one of the largest petrol station and convenience store owners in the nation and also owns the Coles Express and Shell and Liberty network of service stations nationally.

It sells fuel through a national network of more than 1300 petrol stations under the Shell and Liberty brands, and is in the process of acquiring the Coles Express outlets which number more than 700.
