A popular Murray Bridge frozen yoghurt bar and eatery has closed after two years.

Ponyboy was founded as a passion project in 2022 by members of the horse racing community in Murray Bridge.

The restaurant offered a DIY frozen yoghurt bar, drinks and hot food.

Ponyboy closed its doors on December 1, with its owners citing unspecified challenges they faced while running the small business.

In a post to Facebook, Ponyboy thanked patrons, saying they have “loved being a part of the Murray Bridge community” and appreciated the support of their “lovely customers”.

The post went on to say that “the time is right to move on to the next adventure.”

The Ponyboy team told The Advertiser the choice to close was a “difficult decision”.

“We put our heart and soul into Ponyboy but unfortunately we couldn’t make it work,” they said.

“There’s no doubt it’s a challenging period for many in the community and we definitely felt that as a small business, particularly in the last 12 months.”

This is only one of a spate of closures in Murray Bridge in 2024, with another local eatery Steamers Cafe closing down just days before Ponyboy.

In July, the Cameo Cinema, the only cinema in the Murraylands region, closed its doors after 47 years.

In a statement at the time, the cinema said they were “choosing to step back”.

Amid these closures, an expansion to food offerings in Murray Bridge may be on the cards, with an abandoned cottage near the town’s fast food strip demolished in August to make way for a new commercial building.
