US POP superstar Katy Perry has shared heartwarming videos of her meeting with young Adelaide fan Grace Moores, lauding the ‘power of the internet’ for bringing the eight-year-old’s plight to her attention.
The Teenage Dream singer posted the footage on her Instagram account today, showing her singing her chart-topping hit Firework with Grace — who’s battling brain cancer — in the family’s Banksia Park home.
“Grace, you know you’re probably the first person I’ve ever come to their house and done a concert for,” Katy tells her.
Grace underwent emergency surgery last Wednesday, preventing her from attending Katy’s concert on Monday night.
Her older sister, Tiana, started a social media campaign to organise a meeting with Katy and — after more than 20,000 retweets — the megastar surprised Grace before her third and final Adelaide show.
“I just figured, since she wasn’t able to come to the show because of her situation, we’d bring the show to her,” Katy says.
The videos, which Katy captioned, ‘The Power Of The internet’, show the singer meeting the rest of the family, including mum Marie, dad Dale, Billy, 17, Tiana, 16, Aleysha, 13, and Chloe, 6, and high-fiving Aleysha for shaving her head in support of Grace.
“When Katy arrived, Grace was a bit shell-shocked. She was just in awe, the smile on her face was priceless,” said Grace’s mum, Marie.
“Katy is the most down-to-earth, genuine person you could meet.
“Grace is walking on cloud nine. It has given all of us a lift.”
“For her to make all Grace’s dreams come true has put a whole new spin on the crap year we’ve had,” Marie said.
