The police officers injured in a violent altercation at Crystal Brook on Wednesday afternoon remain in hospital with serious injuries following the attack.

Brevet Sergeant Ian Todd, 53, the officer in charge of Port Germein, and Brevet Sergeant Jordan Allely, 32, officer in charge of Crystal Brook, remain in hospital following their injuries in Wednesday’s incident.

“Brevet Sergeant Todd remains in a critical but stable condition and Brevet Sergeant Allely is in a serious but stable condition,” SA Police Senior Constable Jen Cullinan said on 5AA Radio Adelaide on Thursday morning.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens gave a further update on the two men who were injured in the line of duty.

“Jordan Allely, who is the officer in charge of Crystal Brook, he was moved to a ward about eight o’clock last night and he’s doing reasonably well,” Mr Stevens told 5AA Radio Adelaide.

“Obviously there’s a lot of trauma that goes with being involved with an incident like this notwithstanding the physical injuries.”

The other officer involved is fighting for life with life threatening injuries.

“Ian Todd, who is the officer in charge of Port Germein who was with Jordan was in surgery until about 11.30 last night,” Mr Stevens said.

“The outcome of the surgery is reasonably positive.

“He’s not out of the woods yet, but we’re feeling a lot better about his condition today than we were yesterday.”

An ambulance officer was instrumental in saving the life of one of the injured police officers.

“The South Australian ambulance officer who was first on scene was absolutely critical in saving Ian’s life and I couldn’t express my gratitude more strongly to that particular ambulance officer,” Mr Stevens said on breakfast TV show Sunrise.

“It’s clear Ian was lucky to survive at the scene.”

Police Minister Joe Szakacs said the state is supporting the two police officers as they recover from their injuries.

“The entire public of South Australia stands beside them as they navigate these very serious hours and days ahead,” Mr Szakacs said.

“The families deserve and do have our full support.”

South Australia has been rocked by the incident.

“It’s shocking for the whole state and it’s a really tough day today,” he said.

Police remain at the scene to investigate in the aftermath of the incident.

“Major crime detectives and forensic response and also our internal investigation department remain at the scene in Crystal Brook this morning,” Senior Constable Cullinan said.

Support for the officers has come from across the state.

“We would just like to thank the community statewide for the support for the police at this time.

“It’s been felt across the state, the support as people are going into police stations and thanking the police for the service they provide.

“All our thoughts are with Ian and Jordan and their family and friends at this time,” he said.

Mayor of Port Pirie Regional Council, which encompasses Crystal Brook, Leon Stephens said the community is thinking of the two officers.

“Our hearts go out to both Jordan and Ian and we hope they have a speedy recovery.”

The “tight-knit” Crystal Brook community and surrounding areas are rallying around the officers.

Mr Stephens said he expects there will be “a sea of flowers sent for them”.

He also expressed “great admiration” for the neighbour who stepped in to provide assistance to the injured officers.

The Northern Territory Police Association took to social media to throw their support behind the police officers during their recovery.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the officers involved, their colleagues, and the entire South Australian police community during this difficult time,” their Facebook post read.

“Our members put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, and this is a stark reminder of the risks you all face.

“The NTPA is in contact with the Police Association of South Australia and has offered support during this challenging time.”

The association said they “stand in solidarity” with South Australian Police and they offered “sincere condolences to the families of the officers who were injured”.
