An ugly brawl that broke out at the end of a football grand final in the Barossa is now under investigation by the police.
A spectator in the crowd was allegedly assaulted at the end of the A-Grade final between Willaston and South Gawler at Willaston Oval on Saturday.
Police said the incident sparked a brawl at the oval. Footage shows one man grabbing another then pushing him to the ground, before a third man steps in with a strike.
South Gawler came from 57 points behind to win the premiership by six points, 95-89, in the Barossa Light & Gawler Football League.
Aldo Pasin, president of the Willaston Football Club, said such behaviour was unacceptable.
“We, as the Willaston Football Club, and I imagine South Gawler and the league as well, don’t tolerate these stupid actions,” he said.
“We’re a proud league, we don’t accept these sorts of things.
“We’re talking to the league and the investigation is in its early stages.”
A spokesman for the South Gawler Football Club declined to comment.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage is asked to provide their details to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
