Police investigate a Henley Beach robbery after suspects steal nearly$20,000 worth of goods

Police are investigating a suspect, found in possession of a stolen bike, believed to have been used in a bottle shop heist worth nearly $20,000.

Thousands of dollars worth of alcohol and cigarettes were nabbed from a bottle shop at Henley Beach on Wednesday morning, with police now on a manhunt for the thieves.

Police said Western District patrols were rushed to the Esplanade after a bottle shop store’s alarm activated about 2.50am on Wednesday.

Patrols arrived to find the rear door was used to break into the premises, where the suspects stole “about $20,000 worth” of alcohol and cigarettes.

Police searched through CCTV footage, which uncovered a white Holden utility pulling up to the shop.

A man wearing dark coloured clothing, a black beanie and gloves was captured entering and filling the car with bottles of alcohol and cartons of cigarettes.

CCTV footage also revealed two other suspects on pushbikes near the premises acting as a lookout as the break-in occurred.

The car and pushbikes were then seen heading south on Seaview Rd.

In a strange twist, police found a man shortly after who had fallen from a bike on Seaview Road.

Following further investigation, checks revealed the bike had been stolen about a month ago.

The 39-year-old man from Henley Beach South was also in possession of a laptop and a mobile phone, which police suspect was also stolen.

He was charged with theft and unlawful possession, and is set to face the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 18 October after being granted police bail.

In a statement on Wednesday morning SA Police said, they “suspect the man may have been involved in the earlier break-in however investigations are ongoing.”
