People should remain vigilant following an alleged murder in North Adelaide, despite the city being “a very safe place to live”, South Australia Police Commissioner Grant Stevens says.
Aaron Stahlhut, 54, was found unresponsive when police attended the Brougham Gardens scene on Sunday at 7.45am following reports he collapsed on a walking path.
Mr Stahlhut, from Marden, was rushed to hospital, where he died shortly after.
Police later arrested 20-year-old Rylie Lewis Everson-Clareman and charged him with murder.
Mr Stevens said the alleged murder could “impact on people’s sense of safety” in the parklands.
However, he said people should “keep this in context”.
“It’s inevitable that there will be incidents where strangers are confronted by people who cause them harm,” Mr Stevens said.
“(But) the vast majority of people who are harmed by others find this occurring in a domestic relationship.”
He advised people “to have some level of self awareness in relation to your own personal safety”.
“Adelaide is a very safe place to live and no matter what we do there will always be people out there looking to harm others,” Mr Stevens said.
“Our job is to prevent that from happening.”
He would not comment further on the investigation into the alleged murder.
“I think there will be a point in time when we can provide more specifics in relation to exactly what’s occurred,” Mr Stevens said.
