Monday Pulse: Police believe fire that destroyed tattoo parlour was deliberately lit

SEE THE PICTURES: Police believe a fire that destroyed a tattoo parlour in Adelaide’s south this morning was deliberately lit.

A RECENTLY-RENOVATED tattoo parlour in Adelaide’s south has been destroyed by fire in what police believe was a deliberate attack.

The business is now urging anyone with an appointment today to contact its city shop to reschedule. Just before 4am, police and MFS crews were called to Tattoo Asylum, on Brighton Rd at Seacliff Park, after receiving reports that a fire had broken out in the premises. They arrived to find the building fully engulfed by flames. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in 20 minutes but not before the 20-year-old business was gutted and left with up to $150,000 damage. No-one was inside at the time. It is believed the fire started after an object was thrown through the front window. Fire cause investigators and police are at the scene this morning. Neighbour Lynn Rosser, 68, said she heard a loud noise and then a car take off down the road around the time of the fire but initially thought the vehicle was a newspaper delivery service. “At about 4am I heard a noise - it sounded like metal on metal,” she said. “The smoke actually got me out of bed because I could smell it was quite close and I came around and the flames were coming out the window.” Ms Rosser said a female staffer from the tattoo business arrived on scene shortly after the blaze broke out. “She said to me they’ve just finished the renovations,” she said. “It’s such a shame because the place was looking so nice and so neat and so quiet.” It is believed the shop was renovated about two years ago. Tattoo Asylum is asking anyone who had booked an appointment for today to contact its city shop when it opens at 12pm to reschedule. It is understood appointments may be moved to the Hindley St premises while the insured Brighton Rd business rebuilds. Anyone with information on the fire should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
